Shipping Container Man Cave
A shipping container man cave gives you a bespoke, fully fitted personal space built from a converted steel container, designed entirely around what you want to do with it. Whether you're after a home bar, a cinema room, a music studio, or a dedicated gaming den, BCL Containers can build it to your exact specification.
Separate from the house, weatherproof, and built to last, a container man cave gives you a space that's genuinely yours.
What is a man cave?
A man cave is a dedicated personal space designed for relaxation, hobbies, and entertainment, all away from the main living areas of the home. In its simplest form, it's a room or outbuilding that you get to set up exactly as you like it.
A shipping container man cave takes that idea and builds it into a steel structure that's secure, insulated, and purpose-fitted. Unlike a timber shed or brick outbuilding, a container conversion is quicker to build, more durable, and fully customisable from the ground up.

Not sure what direction to go in with your container man cave? Here are some of the most popular builds we see.
Container Sports Bar
A home bar fit out with draught taps, a bar counter, bar stools, and large TVs showing live sport. Add a pool table or darts board and you've got an entertainment space you'll never want to leave. A 20ft container gives you enough room for a bar run and seating area, while a 40ft opens it up to something closer to a full venue.
Container Cinema Room
Fit out with a projector or large-format screen, reclining seating, acoustic panels, and full AV wiring. A container cinema room gives you cinema-quality sound and picture without the noise bleeding back into the house. We can wire in Dolby Atmos-ready setups and blackout the interior completely.
Container Music Studio
Acoustic treatment, an isolated recording booth, equipment racks, and a control room setup all built inside a steel container that keeps outside noise out and inside noise in. Ideal for musicians, podcasters, or anyone who needs a quiet space to create.
Container Gaming Den
Multi-monitor setups, ambient LED lighting, ergonomic seating, and a dedicated gaming rig. A container gaming den gives you the space and the setup to take your hobby seriously.
Container Hobby Workshop
For car restoration, motorbike projects, or model-making, a container gives you a secure, heated, and well-lit workspace that's separate from the house and built to get dirty. Take a look at our shipping container workshop builds for more inspiration.
10ft, 20ft and 40ft container man caves

Container man caves are available in three standard sizes: 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft. The right choice depends on what you want to use the space for and how much room you have available. For a full breakdown of dimensions, see our shipping container sizes guide.
A 10ft unit suits a single use, such as a gaming den, recording booth, or compact bar.
The 20ft is our most popular choice for man cave builds. At roughly 14.5 square metres of interior floor space, it is big enough for a bar and seating area, a cinema setup, or a combination of both, and most residential gardens can accommodate one comfortably.
For larger plots or rural properties, a 40ft opens up around 28 square metres of space. That gives you room to run separate zones like a bar area, a games section, and a lounge all within a single build.
Do you need planning permission for a shipping container man cave?
In most cases, no. A shipping container man cave installed in a residential garden typically falls under Permitted Development Rights, meaning you can proceed without a formal planning application, provided certain conditions are met.
The main rules are that the container must be used for purposes ancillary to the home, it must not cover more than 50% of the garden area, height limits apply depending on proximity to boundaries, and it must not sit in front of the principal elevation of the house.
These rules apply to standard residential properties in England, with different restrictions for listed buildings, Conservation Areas, and National Parks.
